The Neurobiology Group is seeking a skilled candidate to participate in an internship (8 – 12 weeks) to assist with our drug discovery and assay development efforts. The selected candidate will independently conduct lab-based behavioral neuroscience research utilizing in vivo rodent behavior models. The goal of this paid internship is to provide an entry-level scientist with the opportunity to learn and take part in drug discovery research.
The intern will operate both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to execute an independent project, gaining proficiency in advanced experimental methodologies and theoretical frameworks pertaining to CNS disorders. The project encompasses various facets of in vivo research, such as animal handling and dosing, necropsy, assay development and validation, as well as statistical analysis. Primary responsibilities include daily management and care of laboratory animals, routine execution of rodent behavioral assays, fundamental data management and visualization, acquisition of essential laboratory techniques, active participation in scientific discourse, and preparation of scientific presentations.

Basic Qualifications:
- M.S., or currently enrolled in Ph.D. program, for Neuroscience, Neurobiology, or related discipline
2-years minimum hands-on research experience in neuroscience, pharmacology, biology or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency handling and dosing rodents, preferably rat.
- An understanding of appropriate experimental design and statistical analysis for planning + execution of experiments independently.
- Good presentation and oral/written communication skills.
- The ability to work and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Outstanding initiative to learn new techniques and procedures.

Proficient organizational skills and data management
While training will be provided for the selected intern, the following skills are highly desirable:
- Ability to search and interpret scientific literature surrounding CNS disorders.
- Experience with operant conditioning or related behavioral neuroscience models in rodents

Experience performing basic ex-vivo tissue processing techniques
Working Conditions:
- This position will be 100% onsite, lab-based
