Role Overview

CBC Group is seeking a motivated and high-calibre Associate to join the Private Equity Investment team in Shanghai. The Associate will function as an integral member of a team of seasoned investment professionals, contributing across the full deal lifecycle — from sourcing and due diligence through execution, portfolio management, and exit.

The team's primary investment focus spans pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, IVD, and hospital/healthcare services. This is a strong opportunity for candidates who combine financial rigour with genuine intellectual curiosity about the healthcare industry.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Execution & Due Diligence

  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence on investment opportunities, including financial, commercial, and operational analysis
  • Build and maintain sophisticated financial models, including LBO, DCF, and scenario/sensitivity analyses
  • Support transaction execution, including negotiation, structuring, and coordination with legal, financial, and technical advisors
  • Facilitate the drafting and review of legal documentation across investment transactions

Investment Analysis & IC Materials

  • Perform market sizing, competitive landscape analysis, and cost analysis for new investment opportunities and business development projects
  • Conduct valuation and investment return analysis
  • Prepare high-quality investment committee memoranda and presentation materials

Portfolio Management

  • Support ongoing portfolio monitoring, including regular management interviews, financial reviews, and corporate governance discussions
  • Track portfolio company performance against investment thesis and flag key operational or strategic developments

Exit & Business Development

  • Assist in the evaluation and execution of exit opportunities, including IPOs and trade sales
  • Support business development initiatives and, where needed, contribute to the preparation of marketing and investor materials

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years of relevant experience in private equity, venture capital, investment banking, management consulting, or within the biotech/pharma industry
  • Advanced degree in finance, management, or a life sciences-related discipline (e.g. medicine, pharmacy, biology, chemistry) from a top-tier institution
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills, with the ability to independently build and interrogate complex models
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional language proficiency is a plus
  • Genuine interest in and intellectual curiosity about the healthcare industry; prior sector experience or knowledge is highly valued
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong commercial instincts and sound judgement, with a demonstrated ability to learn quickly
  • Knowledge of structured finance or credit investment is an advantage
