Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
The Role
Our Model Based Product Line Engineering team is dedicated to the application and advancement of Systems Engineering across GM. We are developing leading-edge data solutions, processes, and tool implementations for requirements, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and product variation management. We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to drive the transformation and advancement of our company in digital engineering solutions across the product development lifecycle.
Our team culture is focused on building an inclusive, innovative, and collaborative environment with different perspectives that all contribute to the success of developing solutions for the diverse teams and functions across GM.
In this role, you will lead a team of systems engineers and tool specialists responsible for developing, implementing, and deploying enterprise-scale data solutions for requirements management and model-based systems engineering. You will own the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of MBSE and RM capabilities across the corporation. Using your deep expertise in systems engineering processes, methods, tools, and SysML, you will set the technical direction for modeling practices across engineering domains and champion a digital engineering culture at GM.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
MBSE Platform Strategy & Deployment
Own and drive the end-to-end strategy, definition, and deployment of enterprise requirements management and system architecture modeling environments—from solution design through production rollout.
Define the technical vision for RM and MBSE data models and ontologies (requirement types, attributes, relationships, baselines, versioning), ensuring alignment with GM's broader digital engineering strategy.
Establish and govern requirements hierarchies and traceability models aligned to system architecture, software, hardware, and regulatory needs across multiple programs and platforms.
Design and enforce governance frameworks including workflows, permissions, roles, and policies to support scalable enterprise use.
Resolve competing technical demands, tool conflicts, and cross-team dependencies to ensure consistent, high-quality platform delivery.
Stakeholder & Business Alignment
Build and maintain relationships with senior-level stakeholders across systems engineering, software, hardware, quality, and program management to align requirements lifecycle strategies with business objectives.
Translate complex engineering processes and standards into scalable, enterprise-wide RM, issue, and MBSE configurations, influencing adoption across skeptical or resistant organizations.
Lead the definition and communication of future-state requirements authoring, model libraries, review, approval, and change control processes, driving consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
Align MBSE deployment with organizational systems engineering practices and GM's strategic priorities, presenting direction and progress to senior leadership.
Integration & Digital Thread Enablement
Set the strategy and oversee integrations between MBSE components and related enterprise tools (e.g., PLM, SysML tools, ALM, test management, issue, Agile management), ensuring a cohesive digital thread.
Drive bidirectional traceability across requirements, architecture, design, verification, and validation artifacts spanning multiple disciplines within the business unit.
Champion digital thread objectives by ensuring data consistency, synchronization, and lineage across the product development lifecycle.
People Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop a team of individual contributors (and potentially other people leaders) with diverse skill sets in systems engineering, tool development, and data solutions.
Build a team with the optimal mix of talent and experience; make internal and external staffing decisions to ensure the team is resourced to meet current and future business needs.
Set clear objectives for the team and own the delivery of metrics and KPIs that directly impact functional results and align with GM's strategic priorities.
Conduct workforce planning and ensure team members are continuing to grow their skills and competencies through career discussions, development plans, and targeted mentoring.
Translate organizational strategies into clear direction for the team, reprioritizing and reallocating resources as appropriate based on changing business needs.
Champion change management and role model GM's Behaviors necessary to maintain a productive team without inhibiting individuality and personal diversity.
Resolve competing demands, sensitive situations, and conflicts within the organization and/or with other teams.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field
10+ years of experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or a related field
Demonstrated expertise in Systems Engineering methodologies and their application at an enterprise scale
Deep experience with requirements management tools, issue tracking, and their enterprise deployment (e.g., DOORS Next Generation, JIRA) and/or SysML modeling tools (e.g., Rhapsody, Cameo)
Proven ability to define, configure, and govern enterprise-wide tools and processes for requirements engineering and MBSE
Track record of leading and developing technical teams, including workforce planning, performance management, and talent development
Strong business acumen with experience translating technical strategies into business outcomes
Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive adoption across large, complex organizations
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or related field
Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) at the program or portfolio level
Experience with digital thread and PLM integration strategies
Ability to design, debug, and resolve complex enterprise tool and process issues across multiple disciplines
High level of analytical ability to generalize and reason about complex problem spaces and develop innovative solutions
Experience presenting to and influencing senior leadership on technology direction and investment decisions
