JOB TITLE

Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Vehicle Safety Component Test Technician to join our Vehicle Safety Test Team and Component Test Laboratory located in Superior Township, Michigan. The Vehicle Safety Test Team is part of the Vehicle Safety Integration Department which focuses on the passive safety testing for all Hyundai Motor Group products (Hyundai, Kia and Genesis).We are currently looking for an automotive component test technician to support our component test operations. We are looking for a hard-working automotive engineering test technician who is eager to use their multi-faceted skillset to support a variety of component testing conditions and requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Review test plan with engineers to understand load case preparation and post-test action
  • Perform component safety testing using on-site test equipment:
    • FMVSS 201u
    • FMVSS 226
    • Pedestrian Protection (lower leg, upper leg, headform)
  • Prepare/Assemble/Disassemble vehicle test components (interior/exterior trim)
      • Vehicle exterior: Front fascia, bumper, hood, fender, headlamp, doors, etc.
      • Vehicle Interior: Trim, headliner, seats, dashboard, steering wheel, console, airbags, etc.
  • Test operation and maintenance of compressed gas-powered impact test rig
  • Test operation of 3D Measurement Devices
    • 3D Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) to map and locate impact target points (FARO)
    • 3D Handheld Scan Tool to collect interior/exterior geometric surface data (Creaform)
  • Prepare instrumentation for testing
    • Identify and assemble calibrated and functional equipment for installation
    • Diagnose and repair damaged instrumentation (i.e. soldering of cables and DAQ connectors)
    • Provide recommendation for replacement as necessary
    • Properly document and dispose of non-repairable instrumentation
    • Manage regular interval sensor and test equipment calibration (annual or as required)
  • Test operation of data collection devices
    • Manage data acquisition system (DTS)
    • High Speed Video (Vision Research)
    • Still Photography
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Analyze collected data and prepare reports
  • Fabricate fixtures for test equipment not already developed
  • Continuous Monitoring and Maintenance of Equipment, ATD/Dummy, and Instrumentation
    • Inventory
    • Calibration schedule and records
    • Repair/Replacement status and records
  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly work plans to achieve overall component test standards
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment with other technicians and engineers.
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Fully document vehicle instruments and modifications in a database environment.
    • Parts and equipment ordering.
    • Maintain shop equipment and tools.
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Associate Degree in Automotive Technology field and/or experience in a passive safety component test environment

Related Industry Experience Requirements:

  • Technician I Level with 0 to 3 years of experience

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience working in automotive R&D testing environments
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude. Comfortable in assembly/disassembly using basic hand tools
  • Experience with disassembly and reassembly of interior and exterior vehicle components.
  • Strong Electrical Aptitude. Knowledge of basic DC electric properties, proficient with a DMM, and electrical repair skills such as soldering, desoldering, splicing, and schematic reading.
  • Diligent in documenting processes and procedures
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient PC skills (MS365 Suite: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Strong ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
