Technical Apparel Developer

Objective
The Technical Apparel Developer is responsible for supporting the technical development of apparel products from concept through pre-production by creating technical specifications, developing patterns, coordinating fit sessions, and ensuring product accuracy throughout the development process.
This role partners closely with Sourcing, Design, Product and vendors to ensure all products meet New Era's quality, fit, construction, and manufacturability standards while supporting raw materials development and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Product Development
- Develop and maintain technical specifications (Tech Packs) for apparel products.
- Create and update Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Prepare measurement charts, grading specifications, and construction details.
- Maintain accurate technical information in PLM throughout the product lifecycle.
Pattern Making & Fit Development
- Develop garment patterns based on design intent.
- Review garment fit and recommend pattern adjustments.
- Participate in fit sessions and document technical comments.
- Ensure garments meet fit, measurement, and construction standards.
Raw Materials Development
- Support the development of fabrics, trims, labels, embellishments, and other raw materials.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Design to evaluate materials based on performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability.
- Maintain raw material documentation and technical specifications.
Sample Development
- Review development samples against specifications.
- Prepare technical comments for vendors.
- Support sample revisions until approval.
- Support PP sample reviews before bulk production.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Sourcing, Design and vendors throughout the development process.
- Participate in sample review meetings and product discussions.
- Support development timelines according to GTM calendars.
Documentation Management
Maintain accurate and updated documentation for all technical development processes, including:
- Technical Specifications (Tech Packs)
- Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- PLM updates
- Fit comments & Pattern revisions
- Sample review documentation
- Raw material information
Ensure all technical documentation is complete, accurate, and updated before production milestones.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve technical development processes.
- Support standardization of specifications, construction details, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to improving product quality and development efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of garment construction and apparel manufacturing.
- Experience developing technical specifications (Tech Packs).
- Knowledge of pattern making, grading, and fit evaluation.
- Understanding of fabrics, trims, embellishments, and apparel components.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple development projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Adobe Illustrator proficiency.
- Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- PLM experience preferred.
- Business-level English proficiency.
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in Technical Design, Product Development, Apparel Development, or Pattern Making.
- Experience developing apparel products from concept through production.
- Experience working directly with apparel manufacturers and vendors.
- Experience in sportswear or licensed apparel is preferred.
Education
Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields:
- Fashion Design
- Apparel Design
- Textile Design
- Fashion Engineering
- Or a related discipline.
