We’re looking for a Risk Operations Manager who is part architect, part investigator, and part AI strategist. In this senior individual contributor role, you will take full ownership of Rapyd’s transaction monitoring framework — designing, building, and optimizing the systems, rules, and AI-driven workflows that prevent financial crime while keeping legitimate commerce flowing. You will manage the framework end-to-end, from rule logic and scenario design to AI agent deployment and operational SLA governance, and approach challenges like high false-positive rates as solvable engineering problems. While you won’t manage a team directly, you will shape how the team operates, the tools they use, and the intelligence of those tools over time.

Key Responsibilities

Framework Design & AI Integration

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of Rapyd's Transaction Monitoring framework, including rule sets, scenario libraries, risk typologies, and detection logic across all regulated markets (EU, UK, APAC, Africa, LATAM).
  • Design and implement automated Risk and Compliance operational workflows to reduce manual touchpoints, eliminate redundancy, and enforce SLA compliance at scale.

Investigations & Operational Excellence

  • Conduct and oversee complex, high-risk TM investigations involving AML, CTF, fraud, sanctions evasion, and other financial crime typologies relevant to global payment flows.
  • Drive the full investigation lifecycle: alert review, case enrichment, decision logic, escalation, SAR/STR drafting, and regulatory filing drafting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Define and enforce investigation quality standards, documentation frameworks, and case management best practices that scale across a global team.
  • Proactively hunt for emerging risks using transaction pattern analysis, open-source intelligence, and market trend monitoring.
  • Conduct various ad—hoc tasks, related to Compliance and Risk Operations, including investigations and reviews, research and data analyses, checks and verifications, migrations & dashboards and other related tasks, cases and projects.

Governance, Policy & Collaboration

  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert (SME) on TM technology and AI tooling, advising Compliance leadership, Risk, Product, and Engineering on detection capabilities and gaps.
  • Partner with Data, Engineering, and Product teams to integrate TM signals into broader risk decisioning pipelines and merchant lifecycle management.
  • Prepare executive-level reporting on TM performance, risk trends, and framework improvements — distilling complexity into clear narratives that inform strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a global fintech or global financial institution in a Transaction Monitoring, AML, Financial Crime, or Risk Operations capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience designing or significantly improving a TM framework with AI/automation.
  • Hands-on experience with process automation- workflow automation platforms, or scripting-based automation.
  • Direct experience design AI agents in a compliance, fraud, or risk context at a large or regulated institution.
  • Solid understanding of global AML/CTF regulations and typologies relevant to payments, e-money, and fintech: layering, smurfing, trade-based ML, account takeover, merchant fraud, and more.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in using transaction monitoring and case management systems.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • English – full proficiency.

Nice-to-Have

  • Exposure to NLP or LLM-based tools applied to compliance use cases (e.g., automated narrative generation, adverse media processing, intelligent alert summarisation).
  • Experience in payments-specific risk environments: acquiring, processing, issuing, ISO/PayFac risk, marketplace fraud, cross-border payment flows.
  • Regulatory exposure across multiple jurisdictions — especially EU (AMLD5/6), UK FCA, MAS Singapore, HKMA, African/LATAM/APAC regulatory frameworks.
  • Multi-lingual capability
