About the Role

The Controls Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing industrial control systems and automation equipment. This role ensures reliable operation of electrical, mechanical, and automated systems within a manufacturing or production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical control systems, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and instrumentation
  • Diagnose and repair industrial automation equipment including conveyors, motors, drives, and control panels
  • Perform PLC troubleshooting and basic programming modifications (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar systems)
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical manuals
  • Support preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment failures and downtime
  • Calibrate sensors, switches, and control devices to ensure proper system operation
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment and control systems
  • Collaborate with engineers and maintenance teams to improve system efficiency and reliability
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, modifications, and system updates
  • Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial electrical and controls systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with PLC-based systems
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of motors, drives (VFDs), sensors, and industrial automation equipment
  • Understanding of 3-phase power systems and industrial control panels
  • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics (preferred)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team

Preferred Skills

  • 3–5+ years in industrial maintenance or controls environment
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Mitsubishi PLC systems
  • Background in manufacturing, food production, automotive, or heavy industry
  • Technical certification or associate degree in electrical technology, automation, or related field
