Role Summary

The Senior EHS leader within Rivian is responsible for overseeing various global operations, including Sales, Service, Charging, Research and Development, and Parts Distribution. This role directly reports to the seniormost EHS leader and is an integral part of the EHS Leadership Team. They work collaboratively with multiple internal departments, including Security, Risk/Insurance, Operations, Real Estate, Service, Engineering, Procurement, and Legal.


Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of highly skilled professionals, by establishing goals aligned with critical corporate objectives, setting and adjusting priorities, conducting performance and compensation assessments, and ensuring that the team has the resources to be successful.
  • Manages the EHS department budget, including identifying cost savings opportunities and securing funding for necessary initiatives.
  • Actively drives the value of EHS in the workplace at all levels within the organization, utilizing a management system mindset.
  • Ensures that continuous improvement is built into all EHS programs and systems.
  • Manages the process to ensure that all applicable safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance programs are in place and functioning properly.
  • Interfaces with clients and regulatory officials on matters related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensures applicable EHS related goals including leading indicators are set, tracked, and shared with the organization.
  • Adopts a continuous improvement approach to ensuring every process is functioning at optimal efficiency to ensure that all work places and processes meet applicable EHS standards.
  • Ensures EHS training applicable to each job within the Non-Manufacturing business unit is completed according to schedule.
  • Assures compliance with all applicable OSHA, RCRA, NPDES, EPA, IEPA, federal, state, local and health regulation requirements.
  • Implements measures to capture all blind spots, near misses, and incidents to identify root cause and develop effective corrective, preventative, sustainable actions.
  • Coaches and influences management to integrate and manage EHS consistent with all applicable risks.
  • Ensures that necessary inspections of properties, people, and operations are sufficient to effectively evaluate EHS issues and opportunities.
  • Helps create a culture of injury-free mindset across the organization through accountability, injury review processes and demonstration through example.
  • Routinely works cross-functionally with other company leaders and departments in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Must influence leaders at all levels to achieve goals without direct oversight or authority.
  • Must collaborate effectively across a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Willingness to work extended or non-standard schedules as necessary to mitigate risks and respond to emergency situations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • EHS experience in Manufacturing, Research and Development and Commercial environments is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations (primary), with a working knowledge of DOT, substance abuse, and workers’ compensation programs.
  • Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and management skills are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills in a fast paced, change oriented environment.
  • 7 years broad based EHS experience; 5 years EHS leadership experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. Prefer SAP & EHS Software.
  • Up to 40% domestic travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is $159,200 - $199,000 for Southern California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
