We’re searching for an Associate Director, SRE to support the evolution of Site Reliability Engineering across the enterprise. In this key leadership role, you’ll work alongside the Director of SRE to lead a multi-year transformation program which will prioritise uplifting reliability, availability, and performance of critically important systems.
This is a big-picture role—perfect for a strategic leader who understands people, process, and business alignment. You’ll bring structure to complexity, champion operational excellence, and lead a team that keeps Australia connected when it matters most.
The day to day:
- Drive and implement long-term transformation strategies in collaboration with the Director of SRE
- Lead all aspects of key SRE metrics and service levels across critical enterprise systems
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of SRE professionals
- Coordinate multi-year AOP programs and cross-functional technical delivery
- Run vendor and partner performance in alignment with Optus’ SRE standards
- Champion operational excellence through automation, process maturity, and performance insights
- Partner with senior business members of the business to ensure alignment between SRE and broader organisational goals
- Uplift tooling, documentation, and platform reliability across cloud-based and on-prem infrastructure

- Substantial experience leading large-scale IT operations or transformation programs

- Business and financial acumen with experience aligning programs to strategic outcomes
- Familiarity with up to date SRE practices, ITIL frameworks, and enterprise support models
- Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), automation tools (Ansible, Terraform), and incident management standard process
- A calm, solution-focused demeanor and ability to work across various contending priorities
- Experience in telecommunications or highly sophisticated digital environments
- Background in hands-on SRE, DevOps or system engineering roles
- Certification in ITIL, cloud platforms, or SRE-related fields
