Optus is a leading Australian telecommunications provider, delivering more than 11 million services every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

We’re seeking an experienced Associate Director – Consumer Risk to play a critical senior leadership role in embedding effective, practical risk management across our Consumer business. This role partners closely with the Consumer Senior Leadership Team, ensuring material consumer risks are clearly identified, owned, governed, and actively managed—while enabling growth, innovation, and strong customer outcomes.

Acting as the Line 1 risk business partner, you’ll provide clear insight, challenge, and assurance to executive leaders, balancing robust risk discipline with the pace and realities of a large, customer-facing organisation. You’ll also be a key driver of a strong risk and compliance culture, building capability across the business and working closely with Line 2 and Line 3 teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as the Line 1 risk business partner to the Consumer business, owning risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring across key functions.
  • Embed practical, business‑owned risk management into day‑to‑day operations, with clear ownership, governance, and accountability.
  • Lead consumer risk profiling, workshops, and assessments, ensuring alignment to enterprise risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of controls, driving timely remediation of gaps and issues with a strong focus on customer outcomes.
  • Deliver clear, executive‑level risk insights and reporting, escalating material risks and supporting informed decision making.
  • Chair and contribute to key risk governance forums and champion a strong risk‑based culture across the Consumer business.

What makes you perfect

  • 7+ years’ experience managing consumer risk in a Line 1 risk environment, ideally within a regulated, high‑volume, customer‑facing organisation.
  • Strong understanding of consumer risk across the end‑to‑end customer lifecycle, including regulatory and vulnerable customer considerations.
  • Proven experience influencing senior stakeholders, providing credible challenge, and supporting executive decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk matters clearly and confidently.
  • A practical, outcomes‑focused approach to risk management—focused on what matters most for customers and the business.
