Optus Internal Audit (IA), which is part of the Singtel Group Internal Audit function, is led by the local Chief Audit Officer. Optus Internal Audit's primary goal is providing assurance to Optus’ Board of Directors through its Audit Committee and Senior Management on the operation of controls and the business’ management of risk by performing risk-based audits and reviews.
We're currently seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to join our Sydney-based team. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing audits to provide assurance that Optus' control environment and internal controls are adequate and appropriate to manage the risks that the business faces.
This role is part of the Financial & Operations (F&O) team in Optus Internal Audit, which covers a broad portfolio spanning financial processes, procurement and capital spending, governance, policy and regulatory compliance, and broader business operations. The F&O Team works alongside dedicated IA teams that focus on IT/Technology and Revenue Assurance, including on integrated audits where business, financial, and technology risks overlap.
What You’ll Do
- Plan, execute, and report on audits of financial and operational functions, working across the full audit lifecycle.
- Reviewing business processes and ascertaining the adequacy of internal controls, process efficiency and compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Identifying weaknesses in business process and internal controls for allocated work, and working with management on developing practical solutions to improve operations, reduce costs and manage risks.
- Execution of audit work using the established IA Methodology, ensuring that allocated work and any points raised by the supervisor are closed in a timely manner.
- Prepare audit reports when acting as lead auditor, ensuring that findings are discussed and agreed with management before release.
- Operate as part of the wider IA team, engaging with Sydney-based colleagues across F&O, IT, Revenue Assurance, and Fraud, as well as Singapore-based Group IA colleagues on joint or cross-team audits.
- Understand the telecommunications industry and the associated risks.
- Promote IA's objectivity, integrity, and professionalism across the business, building credibility and trusted relationships at all levels.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience (at least 4 years)in internal audit, external audit, or risk management roles preferably gained in a Big 4 accounting firm or the Internal Audit department of a large organisation.
- Relevant professional certifications such as CA/CPA. Holding or pursuing further internal audit qualifications such as CIA is desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to evaluate complex control environments.
- Additional strengths in regulatory compliance, project management, data analytics, and familiarity with Agile, ESG, and Sustainability Auditing practices.
- Demonstrated experience within the telecommunications industry would be an advantage.
