Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

As Optus continues to simplify how we work, lift standards and build more reliable experiences for customers, we're looking for an experienced product leader to help drive our AI ambitions.

As Associate Director, AI Product, you'll lead the strategy, development and delivery of AI products that solve real business challenges and create measurable value. Working across product, engineering, data science, design and business teams, you'll own the product lifecycle from vision and discovery through to launch, adoption and optimisation, helping accelerate Optus' ambition to become Australia's leading native AI telco.

What You’ll Do

  • Define and deliver the strategy, vision and roadmap for AI products that create measurable business value.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across product, engineering, data science and design to bring AI solutions from concept to adoption.
  • Drive product discovery, user research and experimentation to identify opportunities and validate solutions.
  • Prioritise initiatives by balancing customer needs, business outcomes, technical feasibility and strategic goals.
  • Monitor product performance, using data and insights to optimise adoption, engagement and impact.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and influence decision-making across the organisation.
  • Champion responsible AI practices and identify opportunities to unlock value through emerging technologies.

What makes you right for the role?

You're a strategic and commercially minded product leader who is curious, customer-focused and passionate about using technology to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful business outcomes.

  • Experience leading complex initiatives and influencing stakeholders across a large, matrixed organisation.
  • Strong commercial and analytical acumen, using data to drive product decisions and outcomes.
  • An understanding of risk, security and governance, with the ability to balance innovation with responsible delivery.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with AI, machine learning or emerging technologies, combined with a curiosity for exploring new opportunities and solving complex challenges.
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for innovation, continuous improvement and customer-centric product development.

The good stuff:

  • Competitive remuneration, plus $80 monthly credit, 25% off Optus products and exclusive shopping discounts with our retail partners — making everyday life a little more affordable. Genuine Flexibility - work three days in the office, two days from wherever works best for you.
  • An office campus that has it all - cafes chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre. It’s designed for real life.
  • Great leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever matters most to you.
  • Inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks, because family comes first.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Your wellbeing matters, so we offer with free counselling and support services, available 24/7 in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • A free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Or, heaps of onsite parking. Plus, end of trip facilities with lockers, showers, irons and hair dryers.
