This role is ideal for an experienced backend developer who can operate autonomously, drive technical decisions, and contribute meaningfully to the broader development team. You'll work closely with Product, Analytics, and Development to design and maintain backend systems that are scalable, reliable, and cost-effective - ensuring our infrastructure supports both our players and our business as we grow.

You bring deep technical expertise, strong architectural instincts, and the ability to mentor others while remaining closely involved in execution.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex backend systems and infrastructure
  • Lead the development of internal tools from concept through to production deployment
  • Architect scalable, secure, and cost-effective backend solutions aligned with business needs
  • Proactively identify and address performance, reliability, and cost optimization opportunities
  • Act as an escalation point for complex backend and infrastructure issues
  • Review and approve code contributions to ensure high technical standards across the team
  • Mentor Junior and Backend Developers, supporting their technical growth
  • Clearly prioritize competing technical initiatives and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders
  • Propose and drive improvements to backend architecture, tooling, and development workflows

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Strong proficiency in backend languages and frameworks, particularly PHP and Node.js
  • Deep understanding of relational databases (mySQL and Postgres), indexing strategies, and performance tuning
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including EC2, Load Balancers, CloudWatch, and networking fundamentals
  • Strong working knowledge of Redis/Valkey and caching strategies
  • Experience designing and reviewing scalable backend architectures
  • Experience debugging distributed systems and resolving production incidents efficiently
  • Comfortable working with Docker and containerized environments
  • Confident use of Git, SSH, and Linux-based environments
  • Clear, structured communication of technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ownership over medium to large technical initiatives
  • Ability to balance delivery speed with code quality and long-term maintainability

Working at Tripledot

  • 15 days holiday in addition to bank holidays to relax and refresh throughout the year - with every 5 years of service, you’ll receive an extra 5 days!
